Obituary of William James Storozuk
At 83 years of age, Bill, a cherished blessing to this world, passed away peacefully at ARCH on Tuesday, October 16, 2018. He was lovingly surrounded by his family. For 56 years, Vivian was the love of Bill’s life, until her passing in June 2017. He built the family home in rural Sault Ste. Marie where he and Vivian proudly raised their three girls. His daughters will never know a better man, Leslie Policicchio (Pat), Patti Storozuk (late Alberto ‘Douls’ Equizi) all from the Soo and Pam Brown (James) of Lively. Bill would also share his generous heart with his three grandchildren who deeply loved and respected him, Peter Duguay (Rikki Wallace), Mackenzie Brown (Christopher Mariotti) and Leah Policicchio. Son of the late Steve and Lena Storozuk and son-in-law of the late Issac and Gladys Muncaster. Dear brother of Mike (Ingrid), Jim (Barb), Audrey Joseph (Al Matthews), Shirley Pigeon (Harold) and special nephew to Auntie Nellie. Brother-in-law of Dorothy Ritchie (late Lloyd), Eleanor Muncaster, Marilyn Parent and predeceased by Larry Muncaster (late Bertha), Clayton Muncaster (late Esther), Thelma Richards (late Alex), Millie Gignac (late Bert), Audrey Beharriell (late Carl) and Linton Muncaster (Mary –Jean). He will be sorely missed by kind neighbours and friends, by cousins and “Uncle Bill” will be fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews.
For 38 years, Bill worked as an Electrician at Algoma Steel where he retired in 1992. Never idle, Bill found joy and satisfaction in doing for others. He built homes with Habitat for Humanity, worked for many years at Christmas Cheer, delivered for Meals on Wheels, and attended spring and fall “work bees” for Camp McDougall. Bill, along with his family, faithfully attended St. Andrew’s United Church. There, he actively participated in many functions and events.
Bill would often be found on the sidelines, cheering on his girls and grandchildren in any of their endeavours. He relished home cooked meals, loved feeding and watching the birds, puttering in his garden and working the land. He challenged himself as a wine maker with the bounty of his grape vines, strawberry, rhubarb, red current and raspberry bushes. For years, Bill found much joy at his lot on St. Joe’s, or camping at provincial and state parks. He had many skills as a crafter, with a trademark to be able to fix just about anything. Bill made beautiful tamarack and cedar furniture for his family which will be forever adored. His favourite creation was affectionately named the “Storozuki”, a tractor and plough which served him for 30+ years. From scratch, he built this vehicle out of many various car parts and pieces of scrap machinery.
Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, October 19, 2018 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church on Saturday, October 20, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Eun-Joo Park officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to ARCH or St. Andrew’s United Church would be greatly appreciated. There is gratitude in abundance as the family wishes to thank Dr. Wilson, Dr. Hill and Cindy as well as all of the loving and compassionate staff at the Sault Area Hospital Chemo Suite for the gentle ways they cared for our Dad and Gramps. Finally, it is with profound thanks that goes beyond measure, to the staff and volunteers at ARCH.
