Obituary of Horst Scheliga
It is with deep sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Horst at home at the age of 83. Father of Diana Sterling and Nancy Parr. Grandfather of Avery and Regan Parr. Horst was a dearly loved man and will be missed by his many special friends including Kurt Jorgenson and Joan Preston, Karen and David Kettles, Ilse and Gerhard Strieck, Karin & Friedrich VanAthen and many more. Horst was a man of many passions and talents. He was so giving, donating to many charities including the CNIB Guide Dog Program, Operation Smile, Canadian Bible Society, The Scott Mission, and the Zion Lutheran Church, just to name a few. Horst had many hobbies, he was a member of the Voyageur Trail Association and loved hiking. He enjoyed being involved with the Sault Astronomy Club, and the Chess Club and we can’t forget how he loved his card games with Maria Tenner and the ladies. Horst loved to watch curling and even made a replica curling rink on an old cookie pan so he could imitate the game as it happened. He was a beautiful painter and sold many of his pieces. Horst enjoyed spending time in his garden and yard and kept it just so, and boy could he make a mean red beet salad that everyone enjoyed. Horsts faith was deep, and he enjoyed many years with the Zion Lutheran Church Choir. A beautiful man that will be missed by so many. Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Service at Zion Lutheran Church on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Brad Mittleholtz officiating. Reception to follow. Memorial donations to Zion Lutheran Church would be appreciated. A special thank you to Horsts dear neighbours, Helen and Don Gagnon, who always looked out for him and helped out when needed. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
