Obituary of Mary Jo-Anne Lewis
Passed away peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, February 15, 2019 at the age of 75. Mary was a fragrant and resilient rose who was beloved. Mary is survived by her children Therese Palmer-Duhalde (Marque) of Florida, Christopher Palmer of Winnipeg and Michael Palmer of Vancouver. She will be profoundly mourned by her children. Predeceased by her parents Emma and Stanley Smythe, her sister Carol Roy (Bob) and brother Allan Smythe (late Peggy). Sister of Beverley Smith, Jennifer Smythe and Wendy Smythe. Life in the Sault won’t be the same without Mary and she will be deeply missed by her Auntie Jenny and family, numerous nieces and nephews and extended family in Canada and the USA, the Harriot family of Winnipeg, the Barkley family of the Sault and the many members of her vibrant church family. Mary is the long-time friend of Elvira Bloye, Helina McGrath and family, Wendy Guzzo-Mitchell (Don) and they will sorely miss her. Mom’s humble and extraordinary life was rich with hidden talents and passions. She was an excellent photographer, sketcher, and baker extraordinaire. She has a passion for nature, classical music, gospel greats and especially prayer. Mom’s accomplishments included many things. She loved her long walks in the forests of St. Joseph Island. Her prayer life, empathy and evangelism touched many, and had an impact on the world around her. She was a devout believer in Jesus Christ as Saviour and Lord. Mama, we look forward to seeing you, kissing and hugging you in heaven. A Celebration of Life will be held at Gateway Community Church (155 Hugill St) on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at 12:30 p.m. A further Celebration of Life with interment of ashes will be held in May 2019 with details to be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Gateway Community Church would be appreciated. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of the SAH, for their compassionate, highly professional and excellent care. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
