Obituary of Nicolino Scocchia
Peacefully, but suddenly, at the Sault Area Hospital on Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at the age of 87. Beloved husband of Angela for 60 years. Cherished father of Teresa Thibodeau (Gary) and Ida Franchuk (Michael). Proud Nonno of Marcel, Alex and Matt Thibodeau and Peter and Sara Franchuk. Special Bisnonno of Connor, Lily, Alexis and Wesley. Dear brother of Silvio (Dina) of Guelph and Maria Perino (late Benito) of Italy. Brother-in-law of Alessandro (Emma), Giovanni (Lucia), Valentino, Domenico (Judy), Francesca Vacca (Nick), Nicola and Dante. Pre-deceased by his parents Teresina Leonetti and Fioravante Scocchia. Nick will also be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews and cousins. Nick was born in Befaro, Castelli, Teramo, Italy. Nick moved at the age of 17 to Switzerland from Italy to work. He worked on the farmlands for 18 months and then immigrated to Canada in 1951. Nick worked in Sault Ste. Marie at Algoma Steel, Weyerhaeuser, Abititi Paper and construction as he would work anywhere that would provide him with employment. He returned to Italy in 1958 to marry his wife Angela and returned to the Sault to begin their life together and were married for over 60 years. He worked 43 years of his life at St. Mary’s Paper and retired in 1993. Nick enjoyed working in his many vegetable gardens and planting and tending to his fruit trees. He shared the Italian culture of wine and sausage and tomato sauce making, and Sunday dinner together. Nick and Angela happily shared their produce from the garden with friends and family. He was a hard-working man who provided for his family in many ways. He will be greatly missed. Aveva dedicato la sua vita, al lavoro e alla famiglia.
