Obituary of George Sufady
(February 28, 1927- September 25, 2019) - It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that we, the family of George Sufady, announce the passing of our father, Baba and Gidu at the age of 92. George passed away peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Wednesday, September 25, 2019, surrounded by love. He was called home to be with his Lord and Saviour. Beloved Husband of the late Juliet Homsey Sufady. Loving father of Joseph (Gillian), Jimmy (Nikki), Josephine Harris (Bruce), Madeline Brose (John), Ruth Pino (Al), Esther (Bill Showkowy), John (Sylvia), Danny (Tammi), David, and Paul (Rozana). Proud Grandfather of Aaron (Heather), Shanti (Bram), Benjamin, Mark, Sarah (Andrew), Melissa (Jeff), Candice, Joshua, Tayler, Alanis, Bryer, Adam, and Mathew. Great Grandfather to Asha, Nico, Landon, Sky, Theodore (Teddy), Ian, and another grandchild due in October. He was born Moujalli Issa Safadi in Haifa, Palestine February 28, 1927. He immigrated to Canada from Lebanon and Venezuela with his wife and four children in 1957. His journey has been long but well-lived. He worked for 40+ years as a self-taught welder and pipe-fitter throughout Ontario. He is fondly remembered by his family for his culinary skills. He took great pride in preparing food for many family gatherings: Falafel balls, Baklava, Nammura and Kibbi were just a few of the many dishes he enjoyed preparing. His definition of vegetarian was using Lamb meat in his dishes. He never considered Lamb as meat. He led an active life after retirement which included walking, biking and swimming until the age of 90. Among his many pleasures in life was gardening and beautifying the neighborhood with his flowers. His faith in God saw him through many difficult times, and when he became a widower, he said that he had two roommates: God and Jesus. So he never felt alone. Now, he is with his roommates. We have a long list of people to thank for their continued support, kindness and compassion. Thank you to the “ARCH -Angels” for your compassionate care and making his end-of-life journey so peaceful and beautiful. ARCH was the stairway to heaven for our father. He loved being at this All-inclusive Resort. We will never forget all that you did to make him comfortable and feel special. He admired and appreciated all of you. We can’t thank you enough for this level of exceptional care. Thank you to the Sault Area Hospital nurses and doctors for his excellent care. A heart felt thank you to Dr. Karen Booth for your endless support and care. We are forever grateful for your guidance from the beginning to the end. Thank you, Laura Moss, for all your visits and getting him to the hospital in time. Thank you to the staff at Metro Pharmacy and Employees for making him feel like family. Thank you to March of Dimes for the many services you offered allowing him to live in his home almost to the end. Thank you to his neighbors Brenda and Rob for looking out for him. Thank you, Georgette, for driving him to all his appointments and watering his flowers when he was in the hospital. Thank you to the neighbors on Creery Ave. for your care and companionship. Thank you to Abe Janzen (Mr. Johnson) for your prayers and many visits. Thank you to Dania Kuzbari for bringing memories of Lebanon to him. Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758) on Monday, September 30, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. until time of the Funeral Service in the chapel at 11:00 a.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Interment at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) would be greatly appreciated by the family. Rest in eternal peace. God bless you. The greatest gift in life is love.
