Obituary of Mariangela "Maria" Ianni-Lucio

With broken hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Mariangela (Maria) at the F.J. Davey Home on Saturday, November 2, 2019 at the age of 86, surrounded by loving family. 

Mariangela was the dedicated wife, life time love and best friend of the late Vincenzo. She was the precious and devoted mother of the late Geniale(Sharon), Trieste Del Monte (Nick) and Annelise Iacoe (Enrico). Proud and adoring Nana of Vincent (Cille), Marie, John Paul Del Monte (Katrina), Nicole Del Monte, Annetta Bacskai (Kevin) and Emilie Iacoe (Randy).  Devoted and affectionate Nonna of Brenna, Carter, Andrew and Abigail. 

Maria was born on December 21, 1932 in Aiello, Calabria, the only daughter of the late Pasquale and Teresa Pizzuto.  Dear sister of the late Fortunato (late Ada), late Paul, late Pietro (Yolanda), late Geniale (Birgit) of France and Joe (Rosina) of Toronto. Daughter-in-law of the late Geniale (late Trieste, late Marta). Sister-in-law of Chiara Falsetti (late Nicola), and late Trieste Brunetti (late Luigi) of France. Loving aunt of many nieces and nephews. Special phone calls from her niece Teresa Mammoliti and family will be greatly missed. 

Mom will be fondly remembered for her homemade, authentic Italian cooking, especially her delicious bread, roasted red peppers, salami, sauce and pasta, her exquisite baking, her generous heart, her witty humour, and her selfless acts of kindness towards family and friends. 

Mom was blessed with good health most of her life. Although she combatted frontal lobe dementia and Alzheimer’s for the last 10 years, we are proud of her courage, strength and most of all, determination to live independently. She became a resident of the F.J. Davey Home In February 2019 where she was welcomed with open arms by everyone, especially her new friends Giuseppina, Dorothy, Pearl and Margaret.

Family and friends are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (‪942 Great Northern Road‬ ‪705-945-7758‬) on Monday, November 4, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.‬ Funeral Mass at St. Gregory's on Tuesday, November 5, 2019 at 11:00 with  Father Trevor Scarfone

officiating.  Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to the F.J. Davey Home Foundation or Algoma Residential Community Hospice would be appreciated by the family. 

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. Bragaglia, who took care of our mom for many years. We want to express our appreciation to the NE LHIN, and especially to care coordinator Debbie Scarfone, who guided and supported us on this journey, as well as to CBI Home Care. Special gratitude to Dr. Nicki Apostle for her compassion and gentle manner towards our mom and to Dr. Chung for her care.

A very warm thank you to all the loving, dedicated staff at the F.J. Davey Home, our angels on Second Floor Apple and Driftwood for their genuine love and dignified care of our mom. You became family members to us and we will never forget your warm hugs when we needed them most.  

Much appreciation to family and friends for their support, and especially to Theresa Barsanti, mom’s respite worker and friend. You are truly a precious gem. To Domenic and Gloria Stefanizzi, thank you for visiting our mom and spending time with her everyday. She treasured your friendship.

Mom, you will be greatly missed by your children, whose love for you is beyond measure. The rest of your family  will never forget your kindness, generosity, devotion and incredible smile. 

Mom, we pray that you are dancing in heaven with Daddy and drinking coffee and eating lemon meringue pie with Gino and the many other loved ones who have passed before you. We pray that you are whole again. We will love you and remember you forever.
