Obituary of Herbert Frederick Janke
Family and friends announce the peaceful passing of Herb on Sunday, November 3, 2019 in his 92nd year at the Sault Area Hospital. Born in Flockau, East Prussia on June 3, 1928. Husband of the late Mary (Praskar). Step-father of Mary Kidwell of Ohio. Uncle of many. Devoted and loyal friend of the late Annie Schoales.
Herb became a very proud Canadian citizen in 1957. A member of Ironworkers Local 786 and Construction Superintendent for Dominion Bridge. Herb was humble about his accomplishments, but results driven by all who worked with him. He was always ready to enjoy a beer and raise a glass he will be missed by the Girard and Morin families at our dinner tables and get togethers. Especially missed for Tuesday morning coffee and a hair cut at Marcel’s garage.
Fiercely independent, Herb remained in his home as long as he was able. His final months were made possible with the exceptional care from the staff on 3B at Sault Area Hospital. We would like to thank Dr. Parsons, Kristy, Kate, Morgan, Cheryl, the Jasons, Mariella, Jackie, Tamera, Kristina, Colleen and many others.
Per Herb’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. Cremation has taken place. A private interment will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to the SAH Foundation or a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
