Obituary of Ronald "Ron" Cooper
Surrounded by his family, after a short illness, at ARCH on Monday, December 2, 2019 at the age of 72. Born to Ralph and Mary Cooper in Pickle Crow, Ontario, Ron is survived by his wife of 51 years, Brenda (Halliday), his son Scott, daughters Robin (Jeff Walker), Christie (Triv Currie) and grandchildren Heather and Alex Walker, Jack and Henry Currie. Also survived by his sister Alice McLellan (late Doug), brother Riley Cooper (Mary) and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins. Also mourning his loss are his honorary sons and daughters in our newcomer community and his old Cache Lake Crew. Ron spent his working years in northern mining communities and was always active in the communities in which he lived. After moving to the Sault, he spent several years working with Habitat for Humanity to help build decent, affordable housing. In retirement he worked with newcomer families who had left their homes to find peace and safety in Sault Ste. Marie. In him they found a mentor and a friend. His final wish was that those who knew and loved him would continue his life’s work of helping those in need of love, compassion and inclusion. Friends and family are invited to visit at St. Jerome’s Church on Monday, December 9, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until time of Memorial Mass at 11:00 a.m. with Father Pat Woods officiating. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate donations to ARCH. The loving and attentive care Ron received there in his last days was a comfort to him and his family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
