Obituary of Ernest Poirier
Please share a memory of Ernest to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it. Ernie has been a blessing to me, I thank God for him. Peacefully at ARCH with his family by his side on Saturday, August 8, 2020 after a lengthy battle with heart disease, Ernie was called to his heavenly home.
Much loved husband of Norma and the late Amelia Nowitski (1987). Loved father of Paulette (Dan) of Sugar Island, Michigan, and Michael. Special Dad to Kevin (Carri) of Kingston, Ontario, and Marley (Justin) of Dundalk, Ontario. Special Grandpa of Carrie (Alan), Ryan, Shannon, Cody (Katie), Brandon (Danielle), Bryson, Brianna (Zack), Chelsea of Soo, Michigan and Jaclyne of Dundalk, Ontario. Great Grandpa of Zarah, Emet, Arianna, Dominic, Brielle, Scarlett and Bryce of Soo, Michigan. Predeceased by his parents Arthur and Blanche Poirier. Brother of the late Cecile (late Don), Albert (Louise), Yvonne (late Jack) of Chatham, Ontario, and Bob (Eunice). Treasured Uncle of many nieces and nephews. Brother-in-law of Patsy Pratt (Bob), Donna MacKenzie (Ian), Chris Dore (Diane) of Toronto, Ontario, Joe Dore, and the late Linda McMillan (late Patrick).
Ernie worked at Algoma Steel for 36 years. He loved sports, especially playing ball most of his life. He loved woodworking and made many items for family and friends, as well as various other hobbies he enjoyed. Ernie was a true-blue Montreal Canadians Hockey Fan.
Much thanks to his long-time care givers Dr. Fritz and medical team. Ernie was blessed with many wonderful friends in his life, too many to mention. His Tuesday morning billiard buddies, John, Gerry, Lynne, Don, Arnie. Special thank you to Gary and Vélia, Peter and Betty-Anne, Fernando and Shirley, and our neighbours.
Due to the pandemic a private Funeral Mass will be held at Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish with Father Paul Conway officiating. Memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or ARCH would be appreciated by the family.
