Obituary of Eileen Summers
Please share a memory of Eileen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
An angel has gotten her wings and left this earthly place to join her husband Robert (Bob) and their son Gordon. Eileen passed away peacefully at Extendicare Mapleview on Thursday, November 19, 2020 at the age of 89. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Bob (Paula), Laurie (late Ken), Colleen (Eric), Barb (Jeff), Doug (Liz), her grandchildren Jaime (Tim), Katie (Basho), Bobby, Andrew (Renata), Jason (Shay), Steven (Tanya) Megan (Chris), Jessi (Drew), Riley (Danny), Morgan, Michael (Cheryl), Matthew (May), Mitchell (Shelby) and Samantha. Gram will also be missed by her great-grandchildren, Owen, Jake, Elayna, Caitlin, Peighton, Brielle, Dylan, MacKayla, Jack, Elijah, Willow and Cohen.
Eileen had a successful and fulfilling career in Nursing. She graduated from Brandon General and took a position as an Obstetrical Nurse and continued along this path when the family moved to Sault Ste. Marie where she worked at the Plummer Memorial Hospital. She continued her career taking on several roles and retiring as acting Director of Nursing.
Family was especially important to her. She was so creative and had many hobbies which she enjoyed thoroughly in her retirement years, including painting, gardening, reading, and doing crafts. We always knew that on special occasions such as Christmas we could always be sure that she had been working on beautiful handmade ornaments for all her family. She loved to come down to the lake and could always be seen in the water swimming even before the rest of the family were up, no matter what the weather was like. She was a fabulous cook and loved hosting family gatherings at her house. She was an amazing Grandma, always having time to do crafts, bake or just be a phone call away for any of the grandchildren who were in need. Teatime will always be a great memory for all!
Due to Covid restrictions, cremation has taken place as per her wishes and a small family gathering will take place. Memorial donations to the charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Mapleview for their fantastic care, especially to all the staff on Lake Superior wing. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
