Obituary of Alice Jone Scobie
Please share a memory of Alice to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With profound sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Alice with family by her side on Saturday, November 21, 2020, at the age of 83. Wife of Neil for 65 years. Beloved mother of Cheryl (Dr. Mark Edwards) of Sault Ste. Marie and Daniel, of Pays Plat. Grandmother of Suzanne Scobie-Robinson of Marathon, and Simone Scobie of Massey. Great-grandmother of Daniel and Thomas Scobie-Robinson of Pic River, Ontario.
Alice was predeceased by her parents, Dorothy Irene Doyle and Robert King; and by her cherished sister Eva McLaren (late Roy), and brothers Raymond King and Robert King.
Alice was born in Kirkland Lake and belonged to the Timiskaming First Nation. She lived her early years in Toronto and moved to Rutherglen, where she met and married Neil. They relocated to Sault Ste. Marie and Neil built a home on Market Street in which they resided for the remainder of their marriage.
Alice spent many happy years raising her children, whom she loved unconditionally. Joyful summers were spent at the camp on Patten Lake, cooking, swimming, fishing and visiting with good friends. Neil and Alice also enjoyed playing pool and cards for many years at the Moose Lodge.
Although burdened by medical issues, Alice’s warm personality and wit remained with her till the end. She especially enjoyed her relationships with Theresa McIvor (niece), Julie Bila, Louella Cross (sister-in-law), Lena Scobie (daughter-in-law), Don and Norma Holtby (niece) and Rose Scobie.
Cremation has occurred and a private service to celebrate her life will occur at a later date. Memorial donations in Alice’s name made to the SAH Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to express sincere thanks and gratitude to Doctors Dawson, Bakar, Shafiee, Gravelle, L.Fera and the exceptional nursing staff at 3C at the SAH for their kind and professional care of Alice and the genuine compassion shown to the family. Sincere thanks also to her community physician Dr. Gayle Yee, and Kim Rainone for always ‘being there’ when Alice needed you. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). Please visit the funeral home website to leave memories and condolences as a keepsake for the family.
God saw you getting tired
And a cure was not to be
So He put His arms around you
And whispered ‘Come with Me.’
With tearful eyes
We watched you suffer
And saw you fade away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating,
Hard working hands at rest,
God broke our hearts to prove
He only takes the best.
If love alone could have saved you,
You never would have died.
In life we loved you dearly,
In death we love you still,
In our hearts you hold a place,
That no one could ever fill.
It broke our hearts to lose you,
But you didn’t go alone,
For part of us went with you,
The day God took you home.
