I served with Ron at the Embassy in Dublin and have just learned of his passing. I want to extend my condolences to Margaret and all the family. He was larger than life and unlike anyone else! I’ll never forget our trad music sessions and the fun we had on those occasions. He had a big role in my life by bringing me to Ireland : I am still living here 21 years later. My best wishes to Margaret. Marie Stamp

To my Aunt Marg & Cousins, Brady, Toni & Nicole & their families, my heart is sad for all of you and know how much you loved Ronald A. Irwin. I consider myself lucky to have had such a wonderful uncle and am thankful for the memories I have. Some of the best memories of my childhood were the annual trips to Canada every year to see my relatives. We would see Grandma & Grandpa for a little bit and then it was off to Aunt Marg & Uncle Ron's "camp" at McCarrol lake with them & our cousins. Uncle Ron would be there as much as possible. I thought Uncle Ron was coolest uncle and to me he was larger than life. He made us feel that he was genuinely glad to have us around. When I was in my teens I learned how to make an Italian dish & I wanted to impress Uncle Ron with my Italian cooking. I remember he did eat it, but I knew no one cooked for him like Aunt Marg:-) He had a lasting impact on me and I will remember him fondly as a wonderful & kind man. My heart is with all of you during this time. Donna

Aunt Marg, Brady, Toni, Nicole & family,
Wayne and I have been thinking of you during this difficult time, and send our sincere condolences. I have lots of wonderful memories growing up and enjoying summers at your camp, especially swimming (while my dad shouted to stay close to shore)! Even one of my first jobs was working for Uncle Ron at his constituency office. Lots of fond memories.

My remarkable Uncle, Ronald A. irwin, who loved his family, Aunt Marg, Brady, Toni, Nicole & all his Grandchildren, with all his heart and soul. Uncle Ron's love of Canada was witnessed by all who knew him personally and from afar. I consider myself and my siblings so very fortunate to have loved this amazing man for all our lives. Every year of my childhood, I couldn't wait for summer to happen, my Aunt Marg and Uncle Ron turned those 2 weeks into something magical for their 5 nieces and 2 nephews from the States. The best year of my young life was when Brady was a toddler; I was able to spend an extended time that summer in Canada. I met Uncle Ron's Uncle Danny, Aunt May and cousins Toni and Julie. I felt so loved. So many wonderful memories growing up as Uncle Ron's oldest niece, there is not enough space to explain the impact this amazing man had on my life. I could write on forever and still not be able to express in words how important knowing that Uncle Ron always had my back, especially during the trying and darkest times of my life. I feel hollow now, bu.t I know he will still watch out for me till we meet again. Uncle Ron, I'll love you always and will miss you terribly. Dianne

Margie and family,
.
So sorry that you lost Ron, but he lives on in memory and in his many accomplishments for others. He was not only a loving family man, but he made life better for the people of the Sault and of Canada.
He was a people's man, comfortable talking to the rich and powerful as well as to ordinary folks.
To put it simply, he was a good man who did "good" throughout his life and that is a most worthwhile legacy. He is a remarkable role model for his grandchildren and other young people to follow.

Ron was a good man, a proud Canadian, and such an impressive public servant. I had the opportunity of managing his first federal campaign, and then served as his EA in Ottawa. Years later, in 1993, we both joined Prime Minister Chrétien’s Cabinet.
He was a straight shooter and relentless worker. Ron also had a big heart. He was comfortable with the powerful and famous, but he was most at home with regular folks.
My involvement with Ron was the trigger for my own political career. He was a very generous Boss, and I learned much from him. I remain grateful for his mentorship and his friendship.
To his wonderful family — his wife Marg, his children Brady, Toni and Nicole, and his grandchildren, — I send my heartfelt condolences.
Ron will be missed by the many people he touched. He lived a good life, and his many contributions made Canada a better place.
May he now RIP.

Ron was a tremendous man who loved his city & Canada. He spent much of his life working hard to improve the life of its people in many different roles. I met him in 1990 & was his chief of staff when he was Minister of Indian & Northern Affairs 1993-97 & we remained in touch ever since. I feel blessed to have known him. He fought hard for his constituents & his clients as well as for Indigenous peoples across Canada. He sacrificed family time to make Canada far better. His legacy remains. RIP
