Janet was an important and valued member of our "family" circle here in Wawa. She was "Auntie Jan" to our children who, when she gave them their vaccinations, objected to my suggestion that they say "thank you" :-) She exercised her patience one year when we showed up late for Thanksgiving dinner (with a confiscated moose in the truck), but we were still invited to come for Hallowe'en to help Gary "sort" his candy.
Bob used to chuckle that he wouldn't come in late at night after a callout without turning on the lights as Jan rearranged the furniture regularly while doing a good cleaning. She read prolifically and ran a warm, welcoming household filled with love and humour. As she would walk by Bob (whose feet would be up on the ottoman), she would give a small tweak of his toes - a gesture I always loved to see. Janet dealt with life in a pragmatic manner that spoke highly of her professionalism as a public health nurse.
Jan's hobbies of knitting and quilting always gave us lots to talk about. Her humour and wit are legendary. I will hear her laugh always and the pride in her voice as she told the latest adventures from Terri, Jeff, and Gary, followed more recently by the grandchildren. While we missed them so much here in Wawa, the move to St. Joseph's Island was a good one for both Jan and Bob as it opened up so many new opportunities to them. To the people of St. Joseph's Island who have been so welcoming and kind to the Jerrards through good and sad times, a big thank you from Jerrard fans in Wawa.
Jan will be missed by many and thought of often with love. Sincere condolences to the family and friends near and far.
