Ron Simms

Obituary of Ron Simms

Please share a memory of Ron to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Ron was an extraordinary man and lived a very healthy and full life, until the last couple of years. He battled illness with dignity, grace and positivity. He leaves behind his wife, life partner and best friend, Carol, of 60 years; and his daughters, who owned his heart from the moment they were born – Rhonda Reid (Tyler), Trina Hemstead (Peter), and Dani Simms-Dowding (Mike). He always felt he lucked out with his sons-in-law, saying “we got 3 dandies”. He also left behind his beautiful and much-loved grandchildren - Summer, Brooke, and Casey; and his feisty little great-granddaughter Sadie. He was the son of late Walter and Betty Simms and is survived by 2 sisters whom he adored - Sherry Moore (Hartley) and Donna Atkinson (late Ron). He was blessed with a large extended family - his sister-in-law Jean Suriano (Val), brother-in-law Maurice Spooner (Stefanie), and his many nieces and nephews whom he was so proud of. Ron lost many good friends and is now reunited with his best buddies, including Bill Holmes, whom he met as a young Ranger over 60 years ago. In the 30 years he owned the Trading Post, he met many people who became his friends, this includes the staff who worked alongside him. When they bought a camp at Partridge Point, they met a welcoming group of people who became family; each one holds a special memory in Ron’s heart. If you were lucky enough to know Ron, you know he was a gentle, kind and loving man. However, do not mistake his kindness for lack of strength – strength in character, strength in his zest for life and love. He was a powerhouse, entrepreneur and visionary. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a playfulness, that will forever be missed. To his daughters, he was a hero; in their eyes, he could do no wrong. A true patriarch and shining example of how to live life to its fullest, with integrity. An adventurous soul, he had countless incredible experiences with his wife, daughters, family and friends. For this we will always be thankful! His love of the outdoors was contagious, and to this day, we all love being outside. Fittingly, while his immediate family had a private service (guided by our dear friend Ted), this summer they will host an outdoor gathering to celebrate his life with family and friends. It was truly a privilege to know him. He will be greatly missed, beyond words. For us, life will never be the same. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. A private family service has been held. If you would like to honour Ron, please feel free to plant a tree! A special thank you to Kelly Rutland (NP) who went above and beyond caring for Ron.
