Obituary of Sonia Opala

Heaven gained an angel on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Loving mother of Meggie Opala (Lucas Virtanen). Sister of Tanya Lee (Tim), Fran Scheepmaker (John), Mike Opala (Lisa), Jay Opala and Rodney Opala (Gail). Predeceased by her mother Jean Opala, father Joe Opala and god mother Stella Ciceri. She is survived by her many nieces and nephews who will miss her dearly. She shared an especially close bond with her nieces Emma Lee and Jenny Lee. Sonia was the most dedicated and most wonderful mother to her daughter Meggie, who was her whole world and best friend. She was known for her elegance and grace and lit up every room that she walked into. Sonia enjoyed spending most of her time out in her garden or sitting by the water. Those who had the opportunity to know Sonia knew what a wonderful, caring, strong, inspirational woman she was. She will forever live in our hearts and be greatly missed and cherished by many, especially her dear daughter Meggie. In keeping with Sonia’s wishes, a private service will be held with her family. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be greatly appreciated. Her family would like to acknowledge the staff at the Sault Area Hospital Cancer Clinic and Sault Area Hospitals physicians Dr. Dawson and Dr. White and nursing staff.
