Rocco Melchionna

Obituary of Rocco Melchionna

Please share a memory of Rocco to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our beloved father at the age of 86.  He passed away peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home surrounded by his family. Rocco was born in Sturno, Avellino, Italy.  The family takes great comfort in knowing he is reunited with our mother, Maria Rosaria; his wife and beloved wife of over 60 years.  Loving father of Lena Cipriano (Mike), Angela Alagia (Piero), Connie Pilot (Anthony), and Ida Ceresoli (Matteo).  Much loved grandfather of Rita Tridico (Frank), Stella Savino (Mike), Rocco Cipriano (Amanda) Joseph Alagia (Stariska), Santina Alagia, Alex Pilot (Amanda), Francesca and Olivia Ceresoli. Great Grandfather of 6 adoring great grandchildren.  Son of the late Angelo Michele and late Maria Carolina. Son-in-law of the late Angelina and late Giuseppe.  Brother to the late Carmine Melchionna (late Ermelinda) of Sault Ste. Marie, brother to Salvatore Melchionna (Clelia), and brother to the late Angelina Melchionna (late Michele).  Brother to Clelia Melchionna (late Antonio).  Brother-in-law to the late Rocco (Antonia), Alfonso (Carmina), late Antonio (Clelia) and Michele (late Verina).  Special Uncle to Marie Bruno (Tony) and Melinda. Fondly remembered by many nieces and nephews in Italy. Dad’s greatest joy was when the whole family would gather together for special occasions, and he would marvel at how large the group was becoming. He prided himself on his garden, which he tended with love and care. He enjoyed making wine and sharing it with others.  As a carpet layer, Dad often reminisced of all the jobs he did in town during his lifelong career.  He surely had a full life, surrounded with the love of a multitude of friends who have passed before him. A private funeral service will be held for friends and family, at Northwood Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758), with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating.  Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum.  Memorial donations to F.J. Davey Home and Sault Area Hospital are appreciated.  Special thanks to the 2nd floor staff (Cedar Grove Unit) at the F.J. Davey home for the tremendous care and love they showed to our Father.  Thank you to the 3rd floor Palliative Care Staff who cared for him in his final days.
