Obituary of Paolina "Lilla" Bernardo

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, our mentor, Paolina “Lilla” Bernardo. Predeceased by our father Ernesto, she is now in his arms. Cherished mother of Franca Marinelli (Phil), Mirella McCoy (Terry) and Dina Guido (John). Proud Grandmother of Christopher Marinelli (Adelle), Jessica and Ryan McCoy, Nicholas (Danielle) and Alexander Guido. We will always have her in our hearts. Paolina is predeceased by her parents Fortunata and Rosario Caputo. Sister of Alfredo (Maria), Ernesto (Maria), late Antonia (late Salvatore) and the late Guerino (late Ermelinda, late Rosina). Sister-in-law of Elena Bernardo (late Francesco), late Rosaria Gallo (late Bruno), late Carmela Lepore (late Saverio), late Nicola Bennardo (late Maria), late Rosina Pucci (late Francesco), and the late Maria Gallo (late Bruno). She will be sadly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends.

Our mother immigrated to Canada with our father in 1956 settling in Sault Ste. Marie.  They had a wonderful life together raising their three daughters. A light burned out in her when our father passed in 1982 but she found the strength and courage to keep our family on solid ground. She was an exceptional grandmother to all of her grandchildren and a very giving, kind, selfless person. She taught us to be humble, respectful and be of service.  In turn, we taught our own children the same. We know she is proud of us all. Memories will help fill the void that we feel now.  Miss you and love you.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Monday, September 13, 2021, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A private family service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the SAH Foundation would be greatly appreciated.

A special thank you to those who always called and checked in on her, and Stephanie with the March of Dimes - you always started her day off with a smile.

In life, we loved you dearly, in death we love you still. In our hearts you hold a place, no one else will ever fill. I cried endlessly when you died but I promise, I won't let the tears mar the smiles that you've given me when you were alive. I know you are listening from above.
