Obituary of Vincenzo "Jimmy" Scornaienchi
A life isn’t measured in time…a life is measured in love.
Son of the late Giuseppe and the late Angelina Scornaienchi (Iaconetti), he left his home in Dipignano, Cosenza, Italy at the age of 19 to start a new life in Canada. He married the love of his life, Maria Francesca Scali and they were soulmates for 57 years, never leaving each other’s side. They were blessed with 2 children – Angela Frolick (Michael) and Sandra Scornaienchi and 4 grandchildren that were the light of his life – Natalie Cook (Sean), Emily, Michael, and Jacob. Vincenzo is predeceased by his sister Maria Presta (Alfredo), his in-laws Rocco and Teresa Scali (Vitale) and his sister-in-law Rosa Reale (Natale). He is survived by his brother-in-law Giuseppe Scali (Teresa) and sister-in-law Angelina Scali. He will be missed by several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
He worked hard to provide for his family, and is remembered by many as a driving instructor, but it was his 35+ years at Algoma Steel, especially the later years at Blast Furnace 7 that he enjoyed most.
He was always there with words of wisdom, celebrating our accomplishments and providing support, encouragement, and a shoulder to cry on when life brought challenges. Nothing gave him more joy than to see his family around the dinner table every Sunday and during the holidays. Life was at its best when he was enjoying the company of relatives and friends at their homes or at a party. He loved to travel, and we will always cherish the many fond memories of our family vacations.
His greatest gift to us was his passion for music. Nothing warmed our hearts more than hearing him play guitar and sing our favourite Italian songs. His smile and laughter, his love for his family, and his gift of music will live on in our hearts forever. Our father fought so hard to remain connected and keep his memories of family and friends alive…we’ll be keeping them tucked away for him in our heart.
A private family service was held with Father Alex Saurianthadathil officiating. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Complex Continuing Care Fund or ARCH would be greatly appreciated.
Special thanks to the staff of the Sault Area Hospital Medical 3C unit, especially Phylicia and Eliza as well as Dr. Fera, Dr. Buehner, and Dr. Nicole Apostle who showed our father such great care and compassion. A heartfelt thank you to the staff at ARCH, you are all true angels who brought us such comfort and peace in his final days. Thank you as well to the staff of the Geriatric Clinic, especially Dr. Docheva and Dr. Hopper, Christiane from Bayshore Healthcare, Sarah from Care Partners, and the Alzheimer Society for all your support over the last few years.
Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
We’ll miss you forever Daddy, but we’ll keep singing in the hope that you hear us and remember always that we love you…
