Obituary of Giuseppe Santoro
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved father Giuseppe (Joe) on Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at the age of 98. After 13 years he will be reunited with the love of his life Iola, with whom he shares four children: Eugene Santoro (Réjeanne), Mary Pino (Vince), Carmela Gallo (Gino) and Silvana Iaconis (John). Beloved Nonno of Andrea (Ian), Aimée (Rick), Adrienne (Jarrett), Matthew (Serena), Alfredo (Victoria), Christopher (Dora), Teresa (Jay), Joseph (Tamara), Lou (Tristina), Jason, and Sarah (Matin). Proud Bisnonno of Brayden, Iola, Andrea, Vincenzo, Emma, Lily, Sophia, Connor, Emerson, Adelaide, Michaela and Lorenzo. Brother of the late Antonio Santoro (late Emilia), late Michele Santoro (late Gilda), late Salvatore Santoro (Luisa), late Michelina Adamo (late Eugenio), Teresa Cimino (late Pasquale), Emilia Santoro and Ottavio Santoro (Maria). Brother-in-law of the late Malfalda Falsetto (late Settimio) and Nerina Perri (late Luigi). Zio Peppe will be fondly remembered by his many nieces and nephews.
Joe was born in Aiello Calabro, Italy. With a desire to provide his family with a better life, Joe courageously immigrated to Canada in 1950 without knowing the culture or language. He proudly became a Canadian Citizen in 1959. Despite the challenges of establishing a life in a new country, Joe did not forget his family in Italy. After bringing his wife and children to Canada, he also sponsored four of his siblings and a nephew so that they too could build better lives. He worked on the railroad for several years and finally settled in Sault Ste. Marie after being hired on at the Tube Mill.
Our father loved gardening, playing scopa, reading the Sault Star from cover to cover and watching his favourite program—Wrestle Mania, never missing an episode of the Friday night WWE Smackdown. He was also a wonderful cook. Some would even say he made the best spaghetti sauce known to man. Dad, we are really going to miss you.
Friends and family who have had 2 valid doses of the Covid vaccination (as per the family’s request) are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Monday, December 13, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 pm. Social distancing and masks are mandatory. The use of hand sanitizer is appreciated. Due to the current pandemic restrictions, a private funeral service will take place with Father Ron Ambeault officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
A special thank you to James and Diane from CBI for your exceptional homecare visits and to the PSW’s and nursing staff at the Sault Area Hospital and at Extendicare Maple View for your tender care and compassion during our father’s stay. Also, a very special thank you goes out to Dr. Blair Jarrett. You have gone above and beyond in providing our dad with excellent healthcare over the years.
