Passed away peacefully with her family by her side at the Sault Area Hospital on Thursday, August 4, 2022 in her 91st year. She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Eldon. Cherished Mom of Jennifer Bourgeois (Duncan), Carol Armstrong, Judy Armstrong and Susan Armstrong. Lovingly remembered by Charles and Debby Coe. Much loved Grandma of 11, Great Grandma of 20 and Great Great Grandma of 2. Predeceased by her parents Frederick and Sarah Horne. Sister of Mel Horne (Gloria), Tom Horne (Carol) and predeceased by Jerry Horne (Nancy), Charles Horne and Joyce Taylor (Fred). Lauris will be greatly remembered by her brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Lauris was a kind and beautiful woman who was always willing to help others. She didn’t have the easiest life growing up and did everything she could to ensure her children and family never had to go without. She made sure her family was well fed with her famous “Granny sandwiches”, delicious cinnamon buns and various other homemade goodies. Lauris was very proud that she was able to obtain her Grade 12 education and spent many hours ensuring her girls knew the importance of mathematics, reading and writing.

Family was everything, and each summer she ensured she saved enough money so they could take a family vacation together. Often it would be in the handmade tent trailer built by Eldon. Many fond memories were made camping, swimming and picnicking each year. Lauris had a crafty side and enjoyed creating beautiful works of art with water colours and tole painting. She had a knack for knitting, sewing and embroidering and created cozy blankets, socks and mitts for the whole family. You could often hear her hollering “get over here so I can measure your foot”.  She was a special woman who touched many, her memory will live on in the hearts of her family forever.

At Lauris’ request a private family service was held. Memorial donations to ARCH or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road, 705-945-7758).
