Obituary of Patricia Smith

“Mom, Momma, Ma, Momsy, Nan, Patsy and Pat”

Passed away peacefully at the FJ Davey Home on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 at the age of 84. Survived by her three children, Michael (Lisa), Carrie Lynn and Scott (Linda) and her six grandchildren; Katherine (Sam), Stephanie, Samantha, Alexander, Miranda and Théo. Also survived by her sister Linda Gauthier (Nancy) and predeceased by her two brothers, Bob (Mary) and Wayne. She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Mom’s outlook on life was always positive.  She had a beautiful infectious spirit and life was good if it included a laugh. She was Mom to many beyond her own kids, often referred to as ‘Momsy’ throughout the neighbourhood.  Our home on Coulson Ave, had an open door, open fridge policy, and at any given time we could come home to find Mom hanging with our friends, feeding them, playing cards always with lots of laughter. We will remember her with a big smile, an attentive ear, and always open to providing counsel to the three of us (and many others) on our individual paths and life decisions, making all believe we could do whatever we set our minds and hearts to.

Born in Windsor to Conrad and Blanche she was the eldest of four. The family moved to Gravenhurst early on where Mom spent her formative years. Quickly falling in love with the area, she became and always remained a Muskoka girl.

We would like to sincerely thank all the wonderful team at the FJ Davey Home.  Mom was there for seven years and was always treated with such warmth and kindness. The last week in palliative care was made easier by the nurses and staff who took care of both Mom and the three of us as we spent full days by her side.

A small family celebration of life in Muskoka will take place sometime next spring/summer where she will be reunited with her Mom and Dad.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to the FJ Davey Home Foundation would be deeply appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
