Obituary of Harold Walker
Peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving family, at the Sault Area Hospital on Friday, September 30, 2022 at the age of 88. Always the talker, he kept the family laughing with stories and anecdotes until the very end.
Harold was born to the late Edward and Doris Walker on November 22, 1933 in Welland, Ontario. Beloved husband of the late Dorothy. Proud father of Richard (Cindy), Debbie Lajoie (late Mark), Leigh Gainer (Brian), Grant (Marywin) and Kerri Fryia (late Chris). Fun loving Grumpe of Robin (Bucky), Ted (Emily), Nicole, Abby (Dave), Lisa (Ed), Kevin (Miranda), Shari (Dave), Stephanie (Dakota), late Sara, Brittany (Matt) and Josh. Great grandfather of 20. Brother of the late Vicky, late Micky (late Harry) and the late Phyllis (Doug). Special friend of Marilyn Warick.
Growing up during the Great Depression, Harold dropped out of high school and headed off to work, eventually becoming the well respected and fiercely proud owner of Henderson Metal who was always sharing his expertise. While hard work defined his younger years, he was always interested in learning as much about the world as he could. With a fun-loving yet competitive spirit, he enjoyed many hobbies. Card playing was a favorite and you’d rather be his partner than play against him. Harold loved the Canadian outdoors and shared his hobbies of 4 wheeling, fishing, golfing, hunting and snowmobiling, thus providing a variety of adventures and tall tales for friends and family. Gardening was a favorite pastime, and he gladly shared his bounty. Harold was a member of the Thirsty Thursday Club and the Legion. Former member of the Kinsman Club.
Family and friends are invited to a Celebration of Harold’s life on Friday, October 21, 2022 from 1:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Water Tower Inn Grand Hall West and Courtyard Room. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice would be appreciated. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Dr. K. Woolner, Dr. Danny Hill and the staff of 3C Sault Area Hospital. A special thank you to Dave Guerreirro of Nova Grillhouse. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
