Obituary of Harly David Strain
It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father, surrounded by the love of his family at Sault Area Hospital on Friday, December 9, 2022, at the age of 91. He is now with his beloved wife Lucy, brother Ted, mother Myrtle and father Dave. Loving father of David (Sandy), Diane (Jim), Debi (Mark) and Don. Cherished Grandfather of Andrew, Melanie, Veronica, Sean, Laura, Malcolm, Miranda and David. Great grandfather of 9.
Harly will be missed and remembered by his nieces, nephews and extended family, and his dear friend Ella Rose.
Harly was a Geologist working for IMC for 20 years and an educator working for Cambrian College in Sudbury for 20 more years.
Harly was all things water - fisherman extraordinaire (a fishing pole was never far from his reach), master boater, competitive diver and swimmer. He loved canoeing and sailing trips, where back to the basics was part of the adventure, and his treasured pastime of cruising and fishing with family and friends on his favorite boat, Le Chateau. He also loved gardening, communing with nature, singing and playing his dobro and piano, and was a past member of the Senior Singers Choir
Harly was deeply devoted to his family and loved unconditionally. Integrity, intelligence, sternness, fairness, good-old-fashioned values and strength of character were some of Harly’s credentials. By all measures he was successful.
Dad, Grandpa, you always offered us so much support…your torch continues to light our way. We will always feel your Spirit in Nature when we’re out and about…and we will be with you again, by and by… Rest In Peace… knowing you are truly loved.
A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
The family would like to thank Dr. Bowen and the staff on 3B at Sault Area Hospital and The Great Northern Retirement Home for all their care and support.
Memorial donations to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd. 705-945-7758).
