Obituary of George Simpson

Unexpectedly, but peacefully on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, George took his final breath and slipped away to be reunited with his late wife Cathy (December 2022) whom they shared 57 years together and his daughter Donna Doiron. Devoted father and friend of the late Donna Doiron (Doug), Verna Muncaster (Tracy), Jim Simpson (Christina), Brent Simpson and Isaac Simpson, who was a grandchild that George raised as a son. Special loving Papa of David Simpson (Alicia), Rebecca Hawthorne (Ryan), Ben Doiron, Amanda Simpson (Dylan), George Simpson Jr., Cory Hooymans (Robyn), Victoria Hooymans (Nick), Sarah Devine (Geoff), Ben Muncaster, Sam Muncaster, Reta-Catherine Simpson, Jacob Simpson, Owen Simpson, Cora-Lynn Simpson and Keanna Simpson. Great Papa of 12. He will be lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters Deina Rouse (late Norman), Eliner Joseph (Gerald), Jack Simpson (late Sharron), Cindy Brideaux (Ron) and Bob Simpson (Cathy).

George was a kind-hearted man who was always willing to help those in need. His love of nature, wildlife and animals were what made him see the beauty in each day. He was an early morning riser and could often be found outside in his gazebo at his camp on St. Joseph Island enjoying a cup of coffee and watching the wildlife. His favourite place was his camp and he could often be found making homemade baked beans, building cabins and planting his beans and gardens.

Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Wednesday, March 29, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 12:00 noon with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Spring Interment at Goulais River Cemetery. Memorial donations to the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society would be greatly appreciated by the family. 

I am now home and at peace. He always said he was not afraid of dying,
as he knew where he was going…
