Obituary of John Tomberg
Tomberg, Juho “John” - June 04, 1925 – April 17, 2023
Saying goodbye, Dad, is never easy. You didn’t reach “100” but sure put up a good fight reaching 97 -3/4. You will be sadly missed by your wife of 70 years (just celebrated on April 10th) Eila Tomberg (nee Knuuttila), your two sons Allan (Kelly) and Eric (Ilona) and your five grandchildren; Matthew, Nicholas (Megan), Alannah (Brad), Krista (Sam) and Sara (Alex).
As a true Finnlander, you had a great love for sauna’s and enjoyed them every chance you could. We will miss your stories that showed us all the strength and character of a wise man. You left home in Ingria at the young age of 15 to escape the war. After working in Sweden for a few years, you arrived in Halifax in 1949 on a small boat vowing to never get back on any boat again. After arriving in Toronto you found a job with Philips Electronics as a cabinet refinisher with Consumer Services. Thirty-seven years later you retired in 1987 to have the best career of all – Retirement. Enjoy the sauna, Dad, till the next time we meet.
