Obituary of Ellen Martin
At the age of 82, is resting in peace after tremendous health battles being the stubborn feisty SCOT that she was. Ellen was born July 13, 1940 in Dunoon, Scotland and relocated to Canada in the 1960’s. Loving mother of Carol, Andy and Jackie. Proud grandmother of Brandon. Dear sister of William Hay (Maureen) and the late Irene Rayner (Clive). Cherished aunt of Christine, Stephen, Paul, Linda and their families. Predeceased by her parents George and Ellen Hay of Scotland.
She was known to many as Scottie due to her Scottish accent or Miss Ellie to others. Ellen spent much time volunteering with Victim Services of Algoma, being the Jersey Lady at the Soo Greyhound hockey games, a way-finder at Sault Area Hospital, communication lead at the Labatt Brier and various other sports events the city would often host. Ellen will be dearly missed by our Greyhound hockey fan bus family.
Ellen often brought laughter and fun during her time with family, friends and the neighbours until the day she took a stroke. Life just wasn’t the same for her following that. The family would like to thank her medical team throughout the years.
A private family celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to Victim Services of Algoma would be appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
