Obituary of John Cargill Fraser
John finally pulled up anchor and set sail for the last time on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, leaving behind on shore his beloved wife, Audrey, sons Scott (Martha) and Blair (Veronique); grandchildren Charles and Isobel; his sister Gillean and nieces Cheryl (Lee), Christina; great nieces Brooke and Isla; step children Joanne (Brad) and Steven (Marie); step grandsons Michael, Thomas and Nelson, and a step great granddaughter, Eleanor, a large a loving family.
John was born in Montreal, Quebec on January 30, 1937 but grew up in the Toronto area where he worked until being transferred to Sault Ste. Marie with the Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation. He retired in 1998 and loved sailing in the North Channel for many years. Swinging on an anchor at sunset in a peaceful anchorage was the thing he loved to do most of all.
At John’s request, no services will be held. Memorial donations to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) or the Sault Ste. Marie Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
He is now swinging on that anchor, sails furled, and at peace at last.
Bon Voyage Johnny!
