Obituary of Leslie Ivon Dool
It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of a wonderful father and grandfather in his 93rd year on Tuesday, June 27, 2023. with his daughter and grandson by his side. Les is now reunited with his beloved wife Arlene who he has missed immensely these past 18 years.
No words can express how much he will be missed by his daughter Lisa Dool Riippi and his grandson Dylan Riippi (Rachel Gouveia).
Les is survived by his siblings Iris Chalmers (late George), Lloyd Dool (late Peggy, late Hellen) and sister-in-law Kathleen Dool (late Clayton). Les was the eleventh of twelve children of the late Penman and Edith Dool and the loving brother of his predeceased siblings, Viola and Harry Waite, Nora and Everett Johnson, Elgantine and Raymond Cudlipp, Penman and Violet Dool, Stanley and Norma Dool, Sidney and Donna Dool, Luella and Roy Pitcher, Clayton Dool (Kathleen, late Mildred), Donald and Shirley Dool. Les was also the beloved brother-in-law of Arlene’s sister, the late Margaret English (Howard) and will be missed by many nieces and nephews in the extended Dool and Hallam families. Les will also be fondly remembered by Reima Riippi.
Born and raised and lived his long full life in the Soo, Les was a renowned barber for over 50 years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed fishing and tending to his beautiful flower and vegetable gardens, the bounty of which he loved to share with others. He also became a talented wood craftsman. Les was a man of great faith and he and Arlene were long standing members of Westminster Presbyterian Church, where for over 40 years he served as Church Treasurer, was on the Board of Managers, sang in the choir and was an Elder Emeritus.
Les always put others before himself and continued to be selfless even in his final days. He could brighten anyone’s day with one of his witty jokes and was known to be the epitome of a true gentleman who would strike up a conversation with anyone and everyone.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, August 18, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. Memorial Service will be held in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Mrs. Helen Smith officiating. Memorial donations to the Sault Area Hospital Foundation Cancer Care Fund, or Westminster Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated by the family.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the many caregivers who supported Les and allowed him to stay in his own home which was so important to him. There are far too many to list but we wish to acknowledge:

Physicians and staff from the Group Health Centre and Sault Area Hospital including the Algoma Cancer Clinic and Mike from the Community Paramedic Program, thank you all so much for your amazing care and compassion.
To the family members through the years and dear neighbours Karl & Marg who assisted Les in different ways, allowing him to stay in his own home. We can never thank you enough.
And finally, to the caring and compassionate staff of the ICU at the Sault Area Hospital for making Les’ final days comfortable and his passing a peaceful one, we are forever grateful.
You fought so hard, it’s time to “rest easy now”.
It’s not goodbye, just so long for now.
