Mary Ellen Piwowarski

Obituary of Mary Ellen Piwowarski

Mary Ellen passed away at the Sault Area Hospital, peacefully and surrounded by her loving sons and Julian (Rosemary). Devoted mom of Christopher and Michael, and cherished daughter of the late Ellen Short (Harold).

She will be deeply missed by her sisters Peggy Mannarino (Sam and family) and Debbie Ellard (Rod and family), brothers-in-law Ed (Holly and family) and Walter (late Lucy and family), and close cousin Jackie Nicastro (and family).

Mary Ellen is survived by her dear uncle Bill Pasichnyk (late Ada), cousins Kim, Donna, Judi, and Kerry, and their families in Sudbury. She was a special niece to the late Elva Fantham and her cousins Sharon (Jimmy) and Brian.

Mary Ellen had a special relationship with the Kean family (Geoff (late Ann), Sarah, and family) in England, which she visited many times.

She will be remembered for all the heart she shared with her friends and family. She loved each of them.

Family and friends are invited to a Funeral Mass at Precious Blood Cathedral on Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Hamish Currie officiating. A Celebration of Life will follow in the Cathedral Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the SAH Foundation or ARCH.

The family thanks her beloved friends for their support, especially Ann, Eva, Marilyn, Lori, Sandra, Annette, Franca, Holly, Evelyn, Brenda, Connie, and Shirley. Mary Ellen developed many friendships throughout her 50 years at Algoma Steel and will truly be missed by them.

The Doctors, nurses, and PSWs on 3A/3B are to be commended for their dedication and caring.

Mary Ellen always thought of everyone else before herself. She was extremely generous with her baking, especially butter tarts, biscotti, pies, and “reindeer food” at Christmas. Her memory of everyone’s birthdays, anniversaries, and special occasions was a special gift. We will not forget her kind and generous soul. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
