Obituary of Kevin Long
Passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 at his home in Goulais River. He will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his daughter Christina ("Lil C"), her husband Josh ("The little boy he never had"), his 3 granddaughters Sophia, Elisa and Evelina and his former wife and dear friend Bonnie Long. Survived by his father Harold Long (Mary) and siblings Randy (Debbie), Alan (Joanne), Ruth, Lisa, Greg (Tammy) and Debbie (Bill). Brother-in-law of Joan Long and Bruce Lance. They will miss his quirky sense of humour, conversation and company. He is joyfully reunited with his late mother Eloda Berkin (Miller), late brother Gary Long and sister-in-law Pat Lance. His many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends will cherish many wonderful memories of him as they mourn his passing.
Raised in Sault Ste. Marie, Kevin enjoyed riding horses with his brother and their friends. He met his former wife Bonnie when she travelled to the Soo to visit family. Over the years he worked at a few glass shops and later earned his diploma as a civil engineer technician. He spent a few years being a respected school lunch monitor, advocating effectively for misunderstood kids. He taught Christina math in homeschooling, often accompanied by grilled cheese made with cheez whiz. Later he returned to the Soo area. Over the years he would join his brother Greg on business runs, enjoying conversation and helping out where he could.
He was a proud Papa to his three granddaughters, sharing his love for chess, baking in the easy bake oven, and checking eyelids for cracks (which they quickly discovered meant napping). The girls fondly remember many memories with Papa including a highlight of camping in his backyard, showing their thanks by making daisy chains to decorate his cabin.
