Obituary of Catherine Hughes

Peacefully and surrounded by family, Cathy, at the age of 98 years and 7 months, broke her earthly bonds on October 9, 2023 to go be with her beloved husband William, who has been patiently waiting for her for 31 years. Cathy leaves behind a long life of memories and is survived by her beloved children Robert Hughes, Carrie Apostle (Peter), Brian Hughes and Alan Hughes (Teri Adams). Her heart was full of love for her grandchildren Cindy Apostle (Marc Chene), Dr. Kelly Apostle (Adam Jones), Dr. Nicki Apostle, William Hughes and her great grandchildren Ryder, Neve and Felix Chene; Angus, Rowan and Lachlan Jones; Nicholas and Evangeline Apostle.

Cathy was born in 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland and arrived in Sault Ste Marie as a young woman in 1947. She met her husband Bill shortly after arriving. They married in 1951, raised their 4 children and had 41 wonderful years together until Bill’s passing in December 1992. Cherished memories were made at their cottage on Pine Island, bowling at the Northcrest Lanes, traveling with family and spending time with lifelong friends.

A private graveside service was held at Greenwood Cemetery. Memorial donations to ARCH would be greatly appreciated by the family.
