Palmira Belsito

Obituary of Palmira Belsito

In loving memory of a radiant presence that has departed from our lives, we are deeply saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, Palmira, who left us peacefully on Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in her 98th year, surrounded by her family at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH).

She is now reunited with her cherished husband Raffaele. Adored mother of Rose, Joanne (late Richard Potvin), and Lillian (Steve Pavlik).  Doting nonna of Andrew Pavlik.

Palmira was born in Donnici Superiore, Cosenza, Italy, on April 12, 1925, to Michele Pennino and Rosina Pennino (Arabia). She was one of six children and was predeceased by four of her siblings: Agata DeMarco (Pietro), Ida Cedolia (Ernesto), Sestina Bisceglia (Domenico), and Antonio Pennino (Hughette). Her sole surviving sibling is Raffaelina Spadafore (late Giuseppe) of Montreal. She was also the sister-in-law of Caterina Bruni (Michele), Virginia Riepole (Eugenio), and Michele Belsito (Emma), all of whom have passed.

Palmira's life can be characterized by the words, "She lived her life by the grace of daily obligations." She was not only a Super Mom but also a devoted grandmother, with her family being her top priority. Her grandson, Andrew, was the love of her life and will forever remain her ultimate pride and joy. In addition to caring for family, Palmira dedicated 22 years of her life to employment at Parkway Cleaners, where she formed enduring bonds with her co-workers, many of whom became lifelong friends.

She was a woman of many talents: a superb cook, an avid baker, and an accomplished seamstress. Her cakes became legendary, and the garments she sewed for us guaranteed that we were always well-dressed. She took great delight in her garden and had an unending love for flowers, turning her garden into a showpiece. Palmira passed on to us many of her talents and traditions, but the most enduring was her unwavering commitment to giving to others.

The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to all those who have supported us during this difficult time. Our profound appreciation to Dr. Jenkins, Dr. Law, and the entire team on 3B at the Sault Area Hospital for their exceptional care. A special mention to Hannah Marsh of the Alzheimer's Society for brightening our mother's Friday afternoons. We are particularly thankful for the remarkable team at ARCH for their extraordinary dedication and compassion. The peace and solace you provided to our mother and to our family will be forever cherished.

In accordance with our mother's wishes, a private family service was held. Memorial donations to ARCH, the Sault Area Hospital Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated.

Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).

As we bid farewell to our beloved mother, we offer gratitude for the precious gift that she was to us and to everyone whose life she touched.
