Obituary of Michele Zaccaria
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Michele, surrounded by his loving family, at the Sault Area Hospital on Sunday, February 18, 2024 at the age of 84.
He was married to the love of his life, Teresa (nee Valente), for 52 years. Michele was a loving and devoted father to Rose Hilderley (Steven), Joe Zaccaria and Elizabeth Asghar (Assad). Proud and adored Nonno of Ava and Simon Hilderley, Sophia and Stella Zaccaria and Ibrahim, Ayden and Noah Asghar. He was always so happy when he knew his grandchildren were coming to visit.
Michele was the youngest child of the late Giuseppe and the late Rosina Zaccaria and son in law to the late Giuseppe and Antonietta Valente. Brother of the late Antonio (late Carmela), Egisto (late Elviria Zaccaria), late Chiara Scanga (late Francesco) and the late Francesca Posteraro (late Antonino). Loving brother-in-law of the late Bruno Valente (late Vittorina), late Antonio Valente, Salvatore Valente (late Rosina), Maria Roti (late Vito), Caterina DeSimone (late Francesco), late Rosina Romano (Nicola) and Cosmo Valente (Lina). Uncle Mike is fondly and lovingly remembered by his many nieces and nephews both here in Canada and Italy.
Michele immigrated from Italy to Canada in 1966 where he started to work as a painter and then worked for the Huron Superior District School Board as a custodian for 23 years until retirement. He loved spending time with family and friends over the years listening to music, playing guitar and singing or enjoying the sunshine and garden in his backyard. He looked forward to bringing his grandchildren out for ice cream and was always willing to finish theirs if they couldn’t. He had a wonderful sense of humour which brought much joy and laughter to many. His laugh was infectious, and we will miss hearing his laughter.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Funeral Mass to be held at St. Veronica’s Church at 1:00 p.m. with Father Peter Nwachukwu officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to St. Veronica’s Church or the Canadian Diabetes Association would be greatly appreciated by the family.
We would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Kargbo, and the nursing staff at Sault Area hospital especially nurse Kendra for all her support in his last days.
