Obituary of Anna Giulietti
After 12 challenging and courageous weeks at the Sault Area Hospital, our mother, Nonna and great Nonna passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH) on Thursday, June 6, 2024 shortly after sunrise in her 85th year.
Anna was born on August 4, 1939, in Piagge, Marche, Italy and immigrated to Canada with her family in 1956. She began working at Tomira’s Fashions on Queen St as a seamstress, a profession she loved and was good at. She was a feisty and kind woman who loved her family to no end. After raising four children without the guidance of her mother, whom she missed terribly, she turned her focus to her grandchildren whom she loved unconditionally. She was then blessed with three beautiful great granddaughters which put her over the moon. When we showed her pictures or videos of the girls in the hospital, she’d squeal from happiness. Nonna loved cooking for them and for all of us at every opportunity. When any of us walked through her door she would ask, are you tired, did you eat? She loved being surrounded by her family and always worried about us but never herself.
Anna was the wife to the late Alcide (2015), protective mother of Gabe Giulietti (Natalie), Steven Giulietti, Dan Giulietti (Audrey McEvoy) and Patricia Colyn (Paul). Proud Nonna of David (Megan), Matthew (Brittany), Nicholas (Rachel), Nathan, Roman, Andrew, Sofia and Stephanie. Elated great Nonna of Isabel, Maya and Luna. She is predeceased by her parents Aldo and Tina Giovagnoli (nee Priori). Anna is survived by her brother Giorgio Giovagnoli (Rosaria), predeceased by her brother Joe Giovagnoli (Linda) and by her infant brother and Celestino Giovagnoli. She was the aunt of many nieces and nephews here in Canada and in Italy whom she loved with all her heart.
Mom had a special place and an adoration in her heart for her nephew Rob that went way back. He’d visit her almost daily at the Sault Area Hospital bringing her more honey crullers than she needed, and she also had a special bond with her niece Luciana Grilli of Italy. Mom treasured her visits and phone calls with her lifelong friends, family and the new friends and the staff she met at her brief stay at Great Northern Retirement Home.
The family would like to take this opportunity to thank all the nurses, PSWs and doctors at Health Sciences North, Sault Area Hospital, Ornge and Sault Paramedic Services who gave our mom the best possible care and respect that she deserved. Then there is ARCH - amazing! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts your care, compassion and dedication. Our mother would have loved each and everyone one of you.
A private service has been held. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, where she will be close to her parents and brother. Memorial donations to ARCH would be greatly appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
