Obituary of Vivian Elgie
Passed away peacefully at ARCH surrounded by her loving family after a long courageous battle with cancer. She is now reunited with her beloved husband James Ralph Elgie. Loving mother of Karen Pomber (Kevin), Geoff (Cindi), Michael (Sandra), Sandra Coutu (Phil), and Kevin (Jennifer). Nana of Stephanie (Kelly), Adrian (Jen), Nathan (Jessica), Cameron (Jeanette), Andrea (Al), Brianne (Nick), Christopher (Sonnie), Adam (Jarred), Marion and Braeden. Great Grandmother of seven plus one on the way. Dear sister of Anne Marie Gallagher (Robert) and sister-in-law of Herb Elgie (Barbara).
Vivian graduated from Marymount School of Nursing in Sudbury in 1957. After graduation she worked as a Registered Nurse in Blind River and San Francisco, California. She then worked for more than 30 years at Plummer Memorial Hospital in Sault Ste. Marie. Vivian met the love of her life Jim, and they married in 1962, raising their family on Lewis Road and enjoying many family vacations, which took them from coast to coast across Canada.
After retirement, Vivian and Jim enjoyed their new home on Lake Huron where they met many new friends. After Jim’s passing in 1998, Vivian moved back to Sault Ste. Marie and pursued her passion for travel, visiting Egypt, China, Peru and many countries in Europe, along with many cruises. Her life has been well lived.
Friends and family are invited to a Memorial Mass at St. Jerome Parish (26 Carmel Road) at 12 Noon, on Saturday, August 31, 2024. Interment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations made to ARCH or The Sault Area Hospital Cancer Care Fund would be appreciated by the family.
Vivian’s family would like to thank the Home and Community Care nurses who helped her remain in her own home for so long, the angels at ARCH who made her last days comfortable and Dr. N. Apostle for her compassionate care during Vivian’s last months. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
