Obituary of Margaret Steinwedel
At the extraordinary age of 99 years and 2 months, Margaret passed away peacefully at the F.J. Davey Home in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario on August 7, 2024. Margaret’s final few days were filled with love, peace and comfort as family and loved ones surrounded her.
Born in Horn, Germany on June 4, 1925, Margaret immigrated to Canada in 1954. She lived most of her life in the Toronto area, enjoying her beautiful home, stunning rose garden and outstanding plants. Everyone who knew Margaret enjoyed her hospitality, parties, and baking. She also was a long-time employee of Dominion stores (Metro).
Margaret has now been reunited with her parents Wilhelm and Mathilde, special partner Wally, her beloved sisters Hilda (Hans) and Friedel (Kurt). She leaves behind her son Michael (Susan), whom she loved fiercely, grandchildren Liisa (with whom she had a very special bond), Mitchel (Jessica) and great grandchildren Liam and Sofie, who always brought a special smile to her face. Margaret also leaves behind her nieces Heide (Blaine) and Anke (Marcus) and nephews John (Charlotte) and Jörg (Beate).
Margaret’s amazing blue eyes and infectious smile will always be remembered. She was a true lady: strong, fashionable, elegant, respected, and a lot of fun!
Margaret’s best friend in the world, Eva, will always be her star. Eva has been stellar in Margaret’s care and comfort over the past 10 years. The family is eternally grateful for Eva’s love and compassion.
Thanks to all those who were a special part of Margaret’s life… Hardy (Pat), Valla, Maarit, Heikki, Fred and Ruth, Ian, David (Adrianna), Trinity, the New Apostolic Church congregations in Toronto and Sault Ste. Marie, friends in Scarborough and Harbourview Condominiums and the wonderful staff of Cedar 3 at the F.J. Davey Home.
There will be a service and celebration of life on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at the New Apostolic Church (135 Arden Street) at 7:00 p.m. All are welcome! Memorial donations to the F.J. Davey Home would be greatly appreciated by the family. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
