Obituary of Betty Harmon
With shattered hearts, we share the passing of Betty on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
She was a devoted partner and soul-mate of Carolyn. Mother of Jimmy (Jenn) and Johnny, both of whom she missed very much, and stepmother of Shandon and Braydon. She was also “mama” to Kitty, who still looks for her.
Born in South Carolina on March 10, 1955, she is reunited with her mother Margaret Brigman Anderson, her father Sidney Marion Anderson, and her brother Sidney Jr. She is survived by her brother Sandy (Jackie), and numerous extended family members.
Although her heart’s happiness led her to Canada, she never forgot her American friends and family and spoke of them all often. She enjoyed music, and swimming, and was passionate about politics (American and Canadian!), and personal freedom.
She was an avid reader, often consuming over a hundred books a year. Diminished eyesight didn’t slow her down much, she just pivoted to audiobooks. She reviewed hundreds of books, gaining a reputation as a reviewer of LGBT literature. She will be sorely missed by the many friends she made within our community. She loved the quiet peace of Northern Ontario where she spent her later years with her Canadian family and friends. She would often stop what she was doing to listen to the call of an owl or a howling wolf.
Our hearts are broken by her leaving, and there will forever be a gaping hole where her quiet, humble presence was. We will forever carry her in our hearts and memories. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
