Obituary of Albert Vanderloo
VANDERLOO, Albertus “Albert” - On Wednesday, November 20, 2024 Albert gained his strong angel wings in his 83rd year, with his eldest grandson by his side, at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice (ARCH).
Albert will be heavily missed by his loving wife of 63 years, Reta also known as Bubbles and his three children John (Heather), Susan McEwan, and Michael (Rachelle). The very adored grandfather of Jayme McEwan, Johnny, Jesse, Chelsey McEwan, Deanna, Julie, Mitchell, and Cody, and will be greatly missed by each of them. We take great comfort knowing he is now reunited with his beloved grandson, Lance.
Albert was born May 24, 1941 in Son en Breugle, Netherlands, to the late Francisca and the late Antonios Vanderloo. One of six children, Albert is the loving brother of the late Maria VandeMeirden (late Tony), late Arnold Vanderloo (late Anita), late Frank Vanderloo (Mary), late Annie Lee (Terry) and Anthony Vanderloo Jr. Long time brother-in-law of Mary Ryckman (late Angus), late Robert MacPherson (late Gloria) and Brenda Odber (Fred). Loving godfather of Megan. He will be missed by his many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Albert was an extremely hard worker from a very young age. He started working on his mother’s farm taking care of the milk cows, (along with his pet monkey) to any small jobs he could provide. He started working at Algoma Steel at the early age of 18. In the meantime, Albert also had his own construction company for several years moving and building houses. After 37 plus years at Algoma Steel he finally retired and continued being his hardworking self. Albert continued working on houses to help his children and taking care of his garden and hay fields for many years following. Albert’s hard work unfortunately had to come to an end in 2017 after a very serious burn. After many weeks of being in the hospital, including several days on life support, Albert survived and returned to his home. He has had a very long battle with dementia, and Parkinson’s and is finally at peace with his many friends, family members, and animals he has had over the years.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Helen Smith officiating. Interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial donations to ARCH or the Alzheimer Society of Sault Ste. Marie would be greatly appreciated by the family.
A heartfelt thank you to the ARCH angels and Dr. Nicole Apostle for the care and compassion they gave to Albert and our family.
