Dear Marilyn, Alexis and Alison, It was a very sad moment when I scrolled through the RCMP Last Post site and and noticed Alex's name listed. Mt very heartfelt condolences to you and your families. Alex and I carpooled for a few years back in the late 1970's when you lived on Grey Nuns Drive and we lived one street over on Bonaventure. I have very fond memories of the many laughs that we shared driving back and forth to A Division HQ on Cooper Street in Ottawa. We also have very fond memories of Alex's teenage girls babysitting our three kids. He was a lovely man with a very special sense of humour and although it has been many years since we last had contact I am feeling sad tonight knowing that he passed away. God Bless all of you for sharing your dear husband and father with the RCMP. He was a very proud mountie and was always meticulous in uniform. Sincerely, Bob Livingston

In March 1977, as a 19 year old lad from Nfld, I appeared in Ottawa for my first posting and was greeted by Sgt. McDonald. He made me feel part of the team. He treated all us young people as equals and looked after us. I am sure he made a lasting impression on all of us. Please accept my sincere condolences on your loss. Pete Cornick

As a young Mounted policeman starting my career I was posted to Ottawa in May of 1976 after training..my self and about 400 other young members were posted from embassy control to Olympic duty in Montreal....in August of that year there were hundreds of us who converged in Ottawa after our Olympic duties...Ottawa was a exciting place to be ,foreign visits ,riots on Parliament Hill.the PQ govt elected in Quebec, demontrations at embassies, the american bicentennial... Ottawa was hopping....but Alex kept us in check....those hundreds of members went on to full careers from BC to NFLD,we raised families and went on to train and direct other members of the RCMP ....policing the 2nd largest country in the world....on behalf of those members who remember Alex and there are many. of us I bet , wish to offer our condolences.....he influenced alot of us....ina world that was changed by the Charter of Rights and Freedoms , and a changing demograhic of Canada....I often wondered where he went after he retired....that crew from 1976 are all retiring now....and have fond memories...my condolences again to his family ....to a nice guy .....thank you for the memories in a career we all look back with fondness and pride, right across this great country. A fellow Cape Bretoner.

Marilyn, I am sorry to hear of Alex passing. my memories of of Alex go back to a much younger time for all of us, but whenever we all met over the years our conversations always turned to horses. I had a lovely few hours at the barn meeting his treasure and I still have the book he gave me on how to raise a new foal. I know that you and your family will have many wonderful memories and that in time they will bring you much joy and peace. My thoughts and love are with you,my dear old friend. Bobbie

My dear Millie & family. We felt so priviledged to have known Alex. He was a fine person. Always ready to help anyone. Johnny and I often reminice about the night Alex dressed Johnny up in his Mountie uniform. They put the shade up together on the verandah with so many laughs. So many memories over the years. We shall miss him. Love from Australia. Barbara &Johnny
