Peacefully at home, with the love of his family surrounding him, on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at the age of 80. Loving husband and best friend to Marilyn for almost 50 years. Dear father of Alexis Grolla (Allen) and Alison Macaulay (Donald). Beloved grandfather of Emma, Megan and Ethan. Alex was born in New Waterford, Cape Breton Island and was the son of the late Rose and Rannie MacDonald. Dear brother of Russell and Janette MacDonald (late Alex). Son-in-law of the late Virginia and Gilbert Ramsay. Dear brother-in-law of Barbara MacKereth (Johnny), Brian Ramsay (Linda), Edwin Ramsay (Lynda), Cheryle Villegas (Armando), Sandra O'Brien (Dennis), Rhonda Veltri (Robert). Special uncle to many nieces, nephews and special friend to many. Alex was a proud, long time member of the RCMP. He was an avid horseman and animal lover. Friends and family are invited to a memorial service at Precious Blood Cathedral on Saturday, September 8, 2012 at 10 a.m. with Reverend Hamish Currie officiating. Memorial donations to the SAH Cancer Care or Palliative Care funds would be appreciated by the family. Special thank you to Dr. Spadafora, Dr. Buehner, Dr. Poitevin, SAH Cancer Care Nurses, CCAC, Bay Shore staff-especially Cheryl, Ginette and Michelle and WeCare Staff (Michelle, Dorie and Joelle) for their care and compassion. Thank you to our family, friends and neighbours who provided their love and support during Alex's illness.
