During my last year of social work, I took my final psychology elective course. Not being overly interested in psychology, I left an assignment to the final week. The assignment entailed reading a psychology paper and writing a brief summery and critique.
After four years in social work, this was a common assignment and I thought nothing of it. After day one in the library, I had spent seven hours trying decipher this paper. With a deadline looming, I did what most university students do, began to freak out. Becky and I often vented to one another when school or some other school related variable were stressing us out. That night Becky and I chatted and she kindly offered to help me out the next day at the library.
The day before the assignment was due, I was back in the same spot, in the library, trying to understand this article. Right on time, you came up to the study area, hair in a bun and said "okay, let's figure this out. That day, Becky, while she had her own tests and assignments to write, sat with me in the library and figured out that article. She spent a majority of the day explaining it to me and even drawing out examples. I remember that day as one of the most selfless acts for another that I had ever seen. To care about a friends success to the point where she took on the assignment, for a class she wasn't even in, showed me what kind of person Becky was.
Becky, you helped me in ways that year that I never got the chance to express to you. At times, you were the social worker to this social worker.
I will never forget you.
