Dear family of Gordon, I had the privilege of meeting Gordon on a few occasions when he attended Westminster Presbyterian Church. One Sunday, he asked me if I would be willing to meet him over a coffee at Sandros as he wished to speak with me about a matter on his mind. I said it would be my pleasure so we set a date for the following week. When we met, Gordon shared with me his heart about people in our community. He realized some were in dire straits and he wanted to do an act of kindness to "bring a little happiness". He asked me if I could help him and he gave me a $100 bill in an envelope marked "to bring a little happiness". I learned that he had hoped as a City Councillor I could confer with my fellow councillors and together we could seek a recipient of this generous gift. Upon speaking with the councillors, it was decided to leave it to my discretion only. So, I prayed about it off and on over a few months and one day, I encountered a woman in her mid 60's, a grandmother whom I often saw with her young granddaughter. I felt the prompting of the Lord to give that gift to these two whom I had observed spent a lot of time together and I just knew this gift would indeed "bring a little happiness" to them. I left them a note with the $100 bill at their door explaining the heart of the generous and anonymous giver of the gift. I told them if they wanted to write a note back I would get it to the giver and they did. They explained how much a surprise it was to them and how touched they were to think of such kindness and in return, they took a portion of the gift and gave it away to others and with the balance, they had a treat of a pizza out and a show. All in all, the gift was a blessing to them and to others. I thoroughly enjoyed the almost two hours I spent with your Dad in Sandros the day he and I met. I feel it was indeed a privilege to listen to his story - we all have one and it is wonderful when we take time to listen to one another and watch how the Lord touches and prompts us to action. May the Lord be your comfort in this time of loss and grief. May you find comfort too in knowing your Dad did respond to the call of our Lord on his life and put into action our mission to be the hands and feet of Christ in this world. God bless you, Sincerely Susan Myers
