MURPHY, Edward Joseph (Ed) - Ed passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 2, 2011 at the age of 87. A loving husband to Rita Murphy (nee Devlin) for 62 years. Proud father of Jim Murphy (Jan), Dave Murphy (Debbie), Maureen Murphy-Black (Rick), Mary Ellen Ryman (Ivan) and Maurita Bedard (Michael). Loving grandfather of Mark (Michelle), Luke, Nicholas, Doug, Heather, Russell, Jennifer (Meric) and Jim. Dear brother of Anna Rooney (late Larry) and the late Mary Yukich (late John). Brother-in-law of Frances O'Sullivan (late Dennis), late Teresa Reville (late Wilfred), Mae Lukenda (Lou), Claire Cloutier (Claude), Margaret Anne McLeod (Wally), late Leo Devlin (late Helen) and the late Terry Devlin. Cherished uncle of many nieces and nephews. Ed was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed his family, his work at Algoma Steel for over 30 years, his log cabin on Devil's Lake and deer hunting at his property on his beloved St. Joseph Island where he was born. A special thank you to Dr. Sharon Buehner; the staff of the Community Care Access Centre including case managers Gloria and Elizabeth; the nurses of Bayshore Home Health including Kim and Marnie; the personal care workers of the Red Cross Community Health Services including Theresa, Elizabeth, and Susan; and the staff at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice. Friends may visit at the Northwood Funeral Home Cremation & Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Road 945-7758) on Wednesday, January 5, 2011 from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Funeral mass at Precious Blood Cathedral at 1 p.m. with Reverend Norman Fortier officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ed's memory may be made to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice.
