Obituary of Virginia Muirhead

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Ginny (Virginia) Muirhead at the Sault Area Hospital on Sunday, April 8, 2018. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Peter and Naida Muirhead, and granddaughter Sarah; brother Lindsay and Ingrid Bennett and niece, Ashleigh; her Muirhead family and many close friends. Ginny was born in March of 1950 in Calgary. She spent her early years in western and northern Canada, excelling at various jobs in the mining industry in Lynn Lake before embarking on a career as an audiologist. Upon graduation from the University of North Dakota and Minot State University, she interviewed for a position in Sault Ste. Marie. Though she had always considered herself a western girl, she thought she’d try the Sault for a year. In typical Ginny fashion, she quickly forged friendships. With her work ethic and genuine warmth, she established roots and remained in the Sault for over 30 years. She loved her work and she loved to unwind, whether a drink after work, a quick round of golf or a weekend golf trip. Breakfast with friends. Plenty of dinners out. Countless trips to connect with friends and family. She was always ready to socialize. She developed close bonds with groups of friends who became her Sault Ste. Marie family. Ginny loved her family, caring for her mom until her mother’s passing in 2017. She was a proud mother and was so pleased to welcome her granddaughter into the world this last year.  She never passed up the opportunity to celebrate a birthday, even if belatedly, or any milestone in a friend’s life.  She was everyone’s friend. Ginny had a wonderful kind of grace – we basked in the light of her laughter and love. Ginny’s family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate her life on Saturday, April 14 at 2:00 pm at North 82 Steak and Beverage Company, 82 Great Northern Road. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to ARCH. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758).
