My heart is heavy with sadness to hear of the passing of our most loving and caring Uncle Peter. Our family always looked forward to travelling in the summer, from Guelph to Sault Ste. Marie, knowing we would be visiting the entire Heaney clan while staying with Uncle Peter, Aunt Rita and our cousins. Our family was always greeted with the delicious aroma of Aunt Rita’s secret spaghetti sauce simmering on the stove and Uncle Peter’s warm welcome as we arrived. I will always cherish those times together. I’m so grateful I was able to see Aunt Rita and Uncle Peter at the Heaney Reunion and share with my children a connection with so many caring people. Our love goes out to Uncle Peter and much love and prayers to his children: Michael, Margy and Rob. We are with you in spirit.
Love always,
Michelle Heaney (Christine, Kathleen and our little Farrah) & Kevin, Terry, Mary and Dave Heaney

Mike, Margy, and Rob,
It’s hard to express the impact your Mom and Dad had on our family and me. As Patti-Kay said, your Dad was our rock, and 20 White Oak afforded all of us salvation, and for many, was our “Happy Place,” to steal a line from Happy Gilmore. I know today will be challenging, and our prayers will be with you, but hopefully, you can find contentment in all the lives your parents touched in a positive way that few can match. When I was a kid, we played hockey in your backyard rink, and from time to time, your Dad would take Rob & me down the street to the big rink at St Anne’s. My daughter Shelby learned to make noodles with your Mom in your kitchen, and your Dad gave my son Shawn many of the pucks he gathered through the years. I’m so blessed to have been able to know your parents, and our hearts are with you today.
A few Peteism’s to close out:
Uncle Pete always told us 1929 was a great year because that was the year he was born, and then he followed up, saying 29 was also the start of the depression.
If you found a hockey puck in the snow, you had Eagle eyes.
Keep your head up when the puck is on your stick.
Apparently, there were only two house addresses in the Soo, 284 Albert and 20 White Oak.
Uncle Pete had great stories from his time working on the freighters, and you would think he was on the lake for 10 yrs, but I believe the actual time was more like one or two summers.
Uncle Pete had great clothes as my Dad and Uncle Pat would always borrow them by pulling the back off the locked cabinet, or so I’ve been told.
Uncle Pete taught Phil Esposito how to play hockey. I think Uncle Pete told over a campfire that he helped Phil to improve his stickhandling. When Shawn was doing a book report in grades 5 & 6, he had one of Esposito’s early hockey books from the ’70s, and in the acknowledgments, he thanked PJ Heaney.
According to Uncle Pete, Ford made the best car. I recall Green Ford Custom and the Aerostar Minivan. I may have to disagree with him on this particular fact.

Love and hugs to Michael, Rob, Margy and all of the family. Uncle Pete was our rock. I wish we could gather as we would in the past to be together to hold each other up and celebrate Peter's life and the impact he made on all of us. Uncle Pete took me for my first car ride. It was 1954 and may have been his first car and he braked suddenly for a cat. No seat belts in those days so I got a big bump on my head that scared my uncle more than me. As a family we all spent a lot of time at the beach and Pete's bonfires were epic. No one has made a bonfire that impressed me since then. Pete never boasted about achievements but according to my dad, Pete was an amazing athlete who not only won many trophies, he also helped others in sport. Most notable two little boys who would watch him coach hockey. Peter found out they couldn't afford skates so he found them two pairs and the Esposito brothers skated into the Hockey Hall of Fame. According to mom, the twins, Freddie and Pat torutured their big brother Peter endlessly breaking into his locked clothes closet to "borrow" his fancy dress shirts and teasing him when ever possible. Also according to mom, Peter was my grandmother's anchor and from a young age worked to help her out. The door was always open at Pete and Rita's. There was always room at his table and Rita's cooking fed everyone, no matter how many.
I will carry you in my heart always. Especially around the fire, at the beach or watching hockey.
Love,Your flower girl Patti-Kay
