With heavy hearts we are saddened to announce the peaceful passing of our special “Val” at the Sault Area Hospital surrounded by the love of her family on Wednesday, August 4, 2021, at the age of 68. Cherished wife and best friend of Karol for 38 years. Much loved mother of Marcy Clark (Mitch), Greg Nicholson (Terri) and Erika Uchmanowicz. Proud Nanny of Rylee, Michael, Aidan, Isabella, Charlotte, and Declan. Valerie leaves behind her adored brother Derek Barkley (Marilyn) and her special nieces Ashley Barkley (Mark), Nancy Bird (Jason) and baby Isla. She is now reunited with her loving parents Keith and Norma Barkley and her sweet brother Dean. Dear sister-in-law of John Uchmanowicz (Judy), Wanda Marquis (Reno) and the late Tony Uchmanowicz (Elizabeth). Special aunt of many nieces and nephews. Cherished niece and cousin of the Rydall and Barkley families. Valerie will be remembered by many special friends and co-workers. She was a dedicated employee of Sault College for 40 years, with many accomplishments including sitting on the Board of Governors at the Sault College and on the Patient and Family Advisory Committee at the SAH. A proud Secretary Treasurer of Possibility Community Homes Project among many other esteemed accomplishments. Valerie was a beautiful person inside and out. A woman with poise and grace who also enjoyed a good laugh and loved her family beyond measure. She was an exceptional one of a kind, hardworking woman, her values, and strength will be with us always. There will be a big empty space in all of our lives that we will fill with all our beautiful memories and moments shared. We’ve all gained a guardian angel. Please join us in celebrating Valerie’s life on Monday, August 9, 2021, at the Echo Bay Elks Hall from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Cremation has taken place and a private family interment will be held at Aberdeen Cemetery.
