Mr. Rippon was my grade 3 teacher at Vista Heights and fortunately my grade five teacher as well. He always believed in me, worked with me .
I was a student bored to death with the curriculum, day dreaming, not focused, but Mr. Rippon always encouraged me to explore my creative, disruptive side , always challenging me . In grade four , they made me take a two day test with a specialist, because I was totally not engaged with what was going on in the classroom.
So , they determined that I was gifted and just bored .
Thank god Mr.Rippon was my grade five teacher.. He understood me
I will always remember him,
My Mother said to me last week, “ you should reach out Mr . Rippon. He would be proud of you “
That’s when I found out he has passed, my condolences!
Mr. Rippon gave me belief in myself, I ended up not going to University or College,
But , I did end up at the top of my game , outsmarting my competitors, designing and building the best equipment for safety restraint systems globally for the automotive market.
I took all the knowledge that Mr. Rippon supported me on , and my success in the automotive industry, and started one of the most dynamic companies in Canada , Gastonomous Technologies.
Thank you Mr. Rippon,
wanted to show you
Best,
Andrew Skrepnek

So sorry to learn about Norm. My sincere condolences to his family and friends!
We met at the Mississauga Sailing Club more than a decade ago where Norm was the Commodore.
He helped me a lot with accommodating my boat there in the middle of winter (I was moving places and had nowhere to keep her).
We did quite a few of things together - setting up webcams, a weather station, launching new website, bringing in live jazz music to the club's events. Norm was extremally enthusiastic about all these new things and provided great help.
Norm will be missed! I will pay a tribute to him by making a donation.

On behalf of my family, we send our heart felt condolences. We had only met Norm on a few occasions, however, the stories told by his Dad made him a man we thought we knew well. I am so blessed to have met him.

The running joke in my house for 40+ years is that I would come home from school and start every story at the dinner table with, "Mr. Ripp-ON says..." We were so lucky to have him for grades 3&5 at Vista Heights! Sincere Condolences to Mr Rippon's friends and family,

I taught with Norm my first year of teaching at Vista Heights P.S.. It was an amazing staff and people like Norm were the reason why. He took me under his wing and helped me at all times. When a set had to built for the school musical he was there all weekend to help with that. When I left the school at the end of the year he organized the first of many ‘Memory Books’ for me. His help with the curriculum was unprecedented. He cared deeply about colleagues and students. He was a quiet man with devilish sense of humour. My thoughts are with his family.

Mr Rippon was my favourite teacher. He taught me at Vista Heights Public School in Streetsville in grade 3 and grade 5. I have never had a teacher who treated his students with so much kindness and appreciated spontaneity in his classroom. He was ahead of his time in so many ways. Back in the seventies he allowed the boys to bring in the garter snakes that they caught in the field during recess and then set up a terrarium in the classroom. Even in grade 5 he still read chapter books out loud to the class, and during silent sustained reading (ssr) instead of sitting at his desk while the students read their books he would take coloured chalk and wow us with his impressive art drawings on the blackboard. When we were talking about the digestive system in science—he got his lunch and had a student take an item out and we had to guess how many chews it would before the student swallowed the bite. What teacher does that—only Mr Rippon, he made learning fun while still teaching the lesson. He was the coolest, most amazing teacher and person, and I still talk about him. So happy to hear that he was surrounded by family and friends and continued to enjoy his life to the fullest. My sincere condolences to Mr Rippon’s family.

Both Kathy and I are saddened by the news. Norm was the gentleman who convinced us to join the club and welcomed us with open arms. A true gentleman indeed. We shared being both in education and I truly appreciated his values. We will miss him and his smile. Thank you Deborah for to sharing the news about Norm. We are saddened and yet richer for having known him.

Heart sore is how this news feels.
I met Norm at Corsair Public School. As one of my Administrators, he was always an excellent mentor.
One day, near the end of the school year, in the Staff Room, I heard him talking about sailing. I mentioned that I would like to try it. He did not hesitate to offer to take me out in his Labradorian once school was finished.
Little did I know that once we were rigged that he would assign duty at the tiller. I was terrified, but off we went, staying afloat and returning to dock without capsizing.
Norm amazed me when he spoke of his companion, Black Jack, whom he took for walks on a leash which they both enjoyed.
His friendship and counsel will be missed by my husband, Brian, and I.
Fair winds, Norm.
Brian and Elizabeth McCormack
