Mit großer Trauer haben wir erfahren, dass unser lieber Onkel und Papas Schwager Manfred von uns gegangen ist. Wir senden Ruth und ihrer Familie unser tiefstes Mitgefühl und unser aufrichtiges Beileid. Wir konnten uns auf Grund der großen Entfernung leider nicht so oft sehen, aber es war immer eine Freude und ein herzliches Wiedersehen, wenn "die Kanadier" bei uns zu Besuch waren. Ich werde auch immer in Liebe und Dankbarkeit an meinen Besuch bei Onkel Fred, Tante Ruth, Susan und Steve denken. Es war ein unvergesslicher Urlaub bei euch. Wir sind in Gedanken und Liebe bei euch in dieser traurigen Zeit des Abschieds. Anki mit Papa Werner und meinen Brüdern Stefan und Martin mit Familien

It is with great sadness that I learned that my dear brother Manfred has passed away. I send my deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to Ruth and family. I have many memories of Manfred. For example, the following story comes to my mind: It was shortly after the war. We were still children. One evening he came home from his grandmother's house, where he had already eaten dinner. Our mother and the other five children were still eating. Manfred was a tall, lanky boy who always was hungry. So, he took a plate and asked each of his siblings to give him some of their food. In the end, he had more on his plate than we did. He said he was so lucky to have his family. I will light a candle for you. I miss you so much, dear brother.
